Jamones de Juviles
Jamones de Juviles is a traditional charcuterie company located in the village of Juviles. It benefits from a unique location in the Sierra Nevada Natural Park, in the Alpujarra, at an altitude of 1,250 metres. Juviles hams have been in existence since 1930, when the company began to expand in Andalusia and other autonomous communities in Spain.
Cured meats and ham in the heart of the Sierra Nevada in the magnificent Alpujarra mountains. Ham craftsmen since 1930: almost a century of meticulous, constant work has produced the ‘Jamones de Juviles’ brand. This is a family business that has been handing down inimitable know-how for 4 generations, true craftsmen of ham.
During our first meeting with the current owner, we had the pleasure of running into his grandfather, who, although retired, continues to benevolently verify the quality of the charcuterie produced and the warm welcome offered.
Juviles hams are cured naturally, in cellars that combine modernity (you could eat off the floor) and tradition (north-south facing with natural ventilation for drying).
This company is one of the few butchers to belong to the Consejo Regulador IGP Jamón de Trevélez PGI. The most important date in the history of Trevélez ham is 12 October 1862. That year, an exhibition was held in Granada where the best products from the province were showcased, and Queen Isabel II granted Trevélez hams the privilege of bearing the ‘Crown Seal’ with the following legend: PREMIADO POR S.M. LA REINA ISABEL II EN 1862. TREVÉLEZ.
